How to blitz nits (and other nasties) book review

When Mumsnet asked me to read and review their new book ‘How to blitz nits (and other nasties)’, I jumped at the chance, if you know me, you know that I like to be organised, prepared and ready to face the unexpected.

My four year old Alex has never had nits or worms or anything like that but he is about to start school so it’s going to happen, at some point, there is not much I can do about that, I can however be prepared for it and have the knowledge and understanding on how to handle it.

When I received the book a couple of days ago and started reading it I didn’t expect to laugh so much, to the point that my husband Paul asked me what is so funny about nits? Plenty I’ll have you know.

This book isn’t just about nits though, it also talks about threadworms, ringworm, warts & verrucas, molluscum (say what?), conjunctivitis, foreign objects, vomit, poo & dragons under the bed, none of which are very funny, specially the last one right? Well, it turns out that reading about other parents mishaps and experiences can actually be hilarious and my oh my this book has got some stuff!!! I mean the one where the baby was sick in his mother’s mouth and she swallowed it whilst in a queue in W H Smith’s had me literally crying, mainly because it happened to someone else but also because it’s somehow endearing that in a world of ‘perfect’ parents some of us really go through the mill, am I right or am I right?

Now did I expect to read this book as quickly as I did? No I did not!!!! It is really engaging and whilst it gives you all the facts and science (in easy terms and words) it also shares experiences from other parents and what worked for them whilst dealing with this type of ‘ailments’.

So I’m ready, totally ready, for nits and ringworm and whatever else comes my way. Are you?
